Windows mark the border lines between the public and the private, and serve to buffer the transitions between the two. Thus its mode of being is far vaguer than that of doors. Such vagueness of windows manifests itself when one discovers the reciprocity, and even legitimacy, of gazes, by the very action of which one establishes a relationship with others where potential communications can take place. Sometimes, the communications could occur in our relationship with ourselves.
窗框構著每日之所見,雖有限制,但根據觀察角度、心情、時間、天氣和往來之人的不同,窗外的風景和故事也總是充滿著戲劇性和不確定性。
窗過渡著私密空間與公共空間。相對於門而言，它的存在是含糊不清的：它提供了「窺視」的相互性,甚至是正當性。藉由這一灰色地帶,人們通過「看/被看」與陌生人產生了一種聯繫和交流，而很多時候，這種交流最終也將通向我們自己。
華萊士·史蒂文斯（Wallace Stevens, 1879-1955）曾創作組詩「看黑鳥的十三種方式」，其中包括短詩十三首。每首短詩以不同的視角和方式來呈現「黑鳥」這一對象，詩與詩之間看似相互割裂實則相互關聯。此次展覽我們精選出了十九幅作品，題材包含攝影與繪畫。與這一組詩相似的是，出展每幅作品都以不同的方式呈現了「窗」這一主題，它們彼此間相互獨立又有產生對話的可能。受此啟發，我們將本次展覽命名為「看窗的十九種方式」。
不過與史翁組詩不同的是，這個展覽還是一次集體或公共創作，因此「看窗的方式」也就不止於第十九種：我們希望在看展之後，每一位觀眾都能在日常生活中，發現屬於他自己的「窗」的第二十種維度。
